I know this blog entry comes late but I still wanted to share some pictures from Christmas time in Germany. I had a pleasant flight out of JFK with Singapore Airlines (good food!) and arrived in Frankfurt late morning of December 19. I was lucky with the weather - just one day later the airport was closed for hours because of heavy snowfall and many flights were diverted to other airports.
These snow plows were sitting on the tarmac just waiting for snow when we arrived at the airport. The airport was packed with planes diverted from other airports so we had to wait for 30 minutes before our gate was clear. For most of the two weeks I stayed in Germany the weather was very similar to those gray skies you see in this picture.
Unfortunately I didn't make it to one of the Christmas markets this time but you can find some pictures and information here. Make sure you have a Gluehwein (engl. "glow wine", hot red wine with spices) when you go there for a visit.
In Germany Christmas is celebrated on the evening of December 24. I hope you enjoy these family pictures:
My sister in charge of the champagne at dinner.
Some Christmas cookies my mom made.
My dad playing Christmas songs on his violin.
The advent wreath and Christmas tree in the living room.
My sister and me at dinner in a Chinese restaurant on December 25.
Santa :-)
I hope you all had a good time with your families over the holidays!
Cheers,
Martin
